Work

Located on the Southeastern side of Australia, Parramatta is a suburb 23 km from Sydney.
The City host one of the first European Settlements in Australia and has a historical Center with Church st. as the main vein.
Parramatta Theater is located on the northern side of the River and is bounded by Prince Alfred Park. These attractions make the Site valuable and appeal to several entrances.
Besides, the Site has a significant topography with a slope of 8 meters.

Conceptual models

Using the intepretation of the analysis of Parramatta City, Reykjavic City Center and the Opera House, the concept of the project arose.

Besides, a field trip to Melbourne and research of architectural books and magazines gave great inspiration for the conceptual ideas.

The concept has 3 points:

1. Grid: Creating a Grid on the site controlled by the sorroundings

(Inspiration: Swiss sound box pavilion, Germany)

2. Ribbon: Creating a connection between elements on the Site with the use of a ribbon

(Inspiration: Exhibition area in Reykjavic City Center and Alfred Deakin building, Federation square, Melbourne)

3. History: Creating an atmosphere of a historical environment by using old reused mateials

(Inspiration: INDESIGN magazine, issue 47, 2011 and Vintage stores in Fitzroy, Melbourne)

The conceptual ideas for the Theater project are all related to Parramatta. Walking down Church street you feel the historical atmosphere, not only by the river but also by the number of victorian looking churches.
